Finally Feeling Better

It is so nice to have a happy baby back in our house. I wrote last time that Maren was diagnosed with pneumonia, although Dr. Donofrio didn't really seem sold. We brought Maren home with antiobiotics, and although her cold got better, her fussiness and irritability continued to get worse. I took away dairy the day after her pneumonia diagnosis, and it seemed to help a little at first, but then she got worse again. After a couple of nights of really bad stomach aches we took away soy as well. It apparently wasn't soon enough because we ended up taking her it to the
ER on Sunday night after 8 hours of crying. Randy and I took turns rocking her the whole time with the exception of 2, 1-hour periods when Maren was able to fall asleep despite the pain. Of course by the time we got to the hospital her episode had passed and she was smiling and playing. X-ray showed that Maren was constipated. I know it was secondary to food allergies.

Maren's been soy and dairy free for about a week now and she is back to her normal, happy self. Yay!!! For what it's worth, I don't think heart babies should have food allergies. That being said, Moms of heart babies should probably do what their pediatricians tell them to. Yeah, I'm betting this could have been avoided had we done the allergy testing 2 months ago like we were told. Oops! Maren, I owe you a Coke!

I'm a little disappointed that Randy would ever let one of his children consume soy.
