Garbage Food

Mom and Bill took Henry to school the other morning when Randy and I were at the ER with Maren. Grandma packed Henry's lunch in a plastic grocery sack because I forgot to leave Henry's lunch box behind. When Randy went to pick up Henry from school, Henry's teacher told Randy that Henry didn't have a lunch and that they had to provide one for him. Randy apologized and wondered why the heck Mom didn't pack Henry a lunch.

After picking up Henry, Randy and Henry went to Mom's to pick up a few things. As soon as Henry saw his Grandma, he said, "Grandma, I didn't like those grapes you packed me." My mom was confused and said, "Sweetheart, I didn't pack grapes in your lunch." Almost before the complete sentence came out of her mouth she gasped and ran to the backseat of her car. There sat Henry's turkey and cheese sandwich, applesauce and strawberry Go-gurt wrapped in a grocery sack identical to the one that she and Bill placed their trash in while on their road trip the previous weekend. Oops.

When I took Henry to school the next day I apologized to his teacher for Henry not having a lunch. Thankfully Henry's teacher saw the humor in the situation. She said that Henry reached in and pulled out the baggy of grapes using his thumb and index finger, held them in the air over his head and yelled, "This is garbage!" The assistant teacher walked over, peeked in the sack and said, "There is an apple core in there."

Apparently Henry is too good to eat rotten grapes, apple cores, and chicken leg bones for lunch. Who does he think he is?

I always laugh out loud reading your blog. Henry sounds like a funny little boy! Glad Maren is doing better. Tell Randy hi!

Oh, that is a good story! If I were the teacher that looked in that sack I would be cracking up!

When I was Henry's age I was grateful for an apple core and rotten grapes. He is so greedy.

Aw, bless your mom's heart! I bet she felt awful.
